Given that most candidates are reported to finish quite early in F1, why are there 40, two mark questions and 10, one mark questions, rather than 50 two mark questions?
It is accepted that the time allowance is probably quite generous, but we needed to make some allowance when changing the format for the new qualification. The thinking was that we were switching from a three hour paper under the previous qualification, where the CBE questions for F2 and F3 were based on 50 two mark questions. Therefore when looking at the structure of all three Knowledge module papers, for consistency we needed a common structure for all three papers which reflected the reduction in time allowed. There was also a recognition that some questions could require a greater ‘thinking’ time and that therefore there should be a differentiation in the marks allocated to reflect this. A 2-mark question is likely to be linked to a ‘scenario’ and be about application of knowledge.
