Getting married at the court house.?
A lot depends on where you are getting married (the size of the county court house). You may get married in the judge’s office or in a court room or in the judge’s chambers. And some court houses even have “ceremony rooms.” You may see other Brides and Grooms waiting in line before you and after you. You may see clerks . . secretaries . . policemen . . lawyers . . criminals . . and citizens doing “court house business” walking about. And you will go through a metal detector when you first walk into the court house so leave all those unnecessary metal items at home or in your car (cell phone, video games, pocket knife etc). The ceremony is usually 5 – 10 minutes long. You will probably be asked if you intend to exchange wedding rings (it is not a legal requirement) so the officiant knows to include that part in the ceremony. The ceremony is a civil ceremony which means non-religious. Some ceremonies are just “I do” ceremonies . . some ceremonies involve the repeating of vows . .
