Get a copy of an EMS, fire or incident report?
A. EMS reports are not public record; they are protected information per HIPAA regulation. A copy of an EMS report may be given to the patient that received treatment, by the legal guardian (with proof of guardianship), by the parent or legal guardian of a minor, or by subpoena. A signed medical release form (signed by client or guardian) must accompany a written request by an attorney. Incident reports are public record. Fire Investigation reports are public information with some restrictions. Additional fees may be assessed for Fire Investigation Reports and/or pictures. Others may purchase the EMS report with a valid HIPAA authorization signed by the patient. Incident reports are public record.
