General Information Question: What is “Suprax” used to treat?
Suprax is the brand name for an antibiotic called cefixime. This is a semi synthetic drug of the cephalosporin class used to treat a broad spectrum of infections. It resembles penicillin a little; but, with different side chains and ring structure and has similar side effects to penicillin. Ten percent of patients allergic to penicillin will be allergic to this class of drugs. Suprax is fairly new and is relatively expensive as a consequence. Back to Drug InfoNet Home Page.
