Gayle Sayers or Walter Payton. Who was the better back?
Gayle Sayers was flat out the greatest running back of all time. His career was short and sweet, cut down by injuries but there is no doubt he played the five greatest seasons of any running back in the history of the NFL. His highlight package is the most amazing demonstration of elusive running that has ever been seen. His talent was second to none and he has rightly taken his place among the greats in the Hall of Fame. Sayers ability to stop and start and cut and run with crazy legged abandon is what set him apart from others as well as his peripheral vision and his nose for the endzone. George Halas was right when he said his like would never be seen again.
