Answer Jason: As you probably know, the Cx designation refers to the number of carbon atoms in a given hydrocarbon molecule. CH4 is methane or C1. C2 is C2H6 or ethane and so on till you reach C20 above which you have solid hydrocarbon. The range for gas is between C1 and C4, C5 to C19 are liquid. Any gas deposit primarily of C1 would be pure methane. Deposits contain varying percentages of Ethane, Propane and Butane. Ethane is primarily a chemical feedstock and is separated from the Methane by liquification by cryogenic methods. It used to be passed on along with the Methane fraction to be burnt as natural gas, but now has a commercial value of its own. If the cost of seperating it exceeds its value as a feed stock at a given refinery, it might not be commercially viable to refine the gas at that refinery. So you might need to get clarifiction on how the 8% was being used. It could be that they want at least 8% in order to bother extracting it at all, else the return is not worth it.
