Fun Fact: Can you die from drinking to much coffee?
In moderate doses, caffeine is harmless and can have beneficial effects. Studies have shown that cyclists and runners who have consumed caffeine can perform at a competitive pace for significantly longer periods and distances. However, excessive use of caffeine over time can lead to a condition called “caffeinism,” whose symptoms can include muscle twitching, headaches, hyperventilation, insomnia, and heart palpitations. To cause a fatal overdose, a person would need to consume more than 0.01 pounds of caffeine, which would mean drinking about eighty to one hundred cups of coffee within a period of about four to five hours. There have been reported cases of deaths from caffeine overdose, but these were believed to have been caused by caffeine pills.
