From an operating perspective, how do Applied Biosystems and Celera interrelate?
Applied Biosystems is a supplier of instruments and consumables to Celera. Celera is a customer for the instruments and consumables made by Applied Biosystems and purchases these products on the same terms as any other customer. However, Celera’s annual purchases have in recent years have been less than 1 percent of Applied Biosystems’ revenues. Effective January 1, 2006, the two businesses dissolved their joint venture, Celera Diagnostics, which was absorbed by Celera, and redefined how they would work together in the field of molecular diagnostics and in certain other areas.
