Well from a British point of view: Friend, pal, chum and buddy are synonyms. Friend is generic, pal is fairly commonly used in the UK, chum is quite dated and ‘posh’, buddy is an american term, we don’t really use it here. Lad, geezer and fellow are synomyms for a male. Lad is a young boy or man, geezer – working class man, fellow – another slightly ‘posh’ term.
