There are renowned experts in almost every disease at Mayo which makes this a destination for patients with the rare and unusual; however, this makes up a small percentage of a resident’s practice. Mayo Clinic Rochester residents develop expertise in general internal medicine and have the opportunity to become familiar with unusual diseases as well. Furthermore, residents become comfortable dealing with the unknown and in furthering the frontier of internal medicine. Additional expertise in specific areas of interest can be developed through electives.
