When will the limestone mine open? Arch Materials opened for business April 13th, 2009. 3. What method will be used to extract the limestone? Arch Materials has developed 2 underground tunnels, which access the limestone reserves approximately 900ft below the surface. 4. Are you currently using explosives at the Batavia Mine? Yes, Arch Materials began blasting for production in Feb. 2009. 5. How long will the Batavia Mine be open? The Batavia Mine has years of reserves. It’s expected life will range from 50 – 75 years! 6. How many people will the mine employ? The Batavia Mine currently employs approximately 35 full-time employees. 7. Will Arch Materials hire truck drivers for hauling?
