Forgot to put my return address on the back of my airmail letter?

as far as i know, the return address is there just in case your letter can not be delivered for some reason (address doesnt exist, postage not paid, wrong address and want to ‘return to sender’ etc). I put my return address on just about everything I send and I have not seen one thing ever returned to me. and im in australia, a country a million times bigger than england…(i am presuming thats where you live?
