for wheelchairs & other mobility aids.. is there such coverage?
You don’t mention whether your contacts have actual Medicare/Medicaid coverage or are dealing with an HMO (I would bet they are dealing with HMOs though) but virtually all mobility devices, including needed repairs and parts replacements, are supposed to be covered. The HMOs are getting paid by the government to provide patients with those items, and if people aren’t getting them, their best recourse might be to contact whatever agency within their state handles HMO complaints (usually the Dept. of Insurance but sometimes not), or in the case of Medicaid, the state’s Medicaid agency. Also, it would be very helpful to get an advocate involved- such as a social worker from the local Senior Citizen’s center or an advocate for the disabled. HMOs don’t like it when they get pressured by these folks because it can mean bad PR, and these advocates do a great job.
