For Visiting employees, why would we continue to use dummy SSNs in the “National ID” field rather than input the ID from the employees country?

Because SSNs are used as identifiers in various systems throughout NIH, we will continue to assign “dummy” SSNs in the National ID field for those employees who do not have them at the time they are hired (e.g., Visiting Fellows). Once these employees receive their actual SSNs, the IC will notify HRPS (formerly the SPO) who will update the SSNs in the system.
