For nurses, what is the difference between CGFNS and NCLEX exams? Do foreign nurses have to take both?
Well if you are going to work in the U.S. you will have to take the CGFNS as according to wikipedia: CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) is a qualifying examination that is required from graduates of nursing schools located outside of the United States of America who are interested in practicing as registered nurses in the U.S. It tests candidates’ nursing knowledge and their understanding and use of English language skills. The successful candidates are awarded a CGFNS Certificate when they have passed both the nursing section and the English language section of the examination. As you are graduating from a school in the Philippines you are not even eligible to take the NCLEX exam.
You will need to take both. You have to take the CGFNS and then you can apply for licensure in the state you want to work in. They will evaluate your education and decide if you are eligible to write the NCLEX which you need to pass for licensure in the US. Before you do all this you need to write and pass the local boards in the Philippines.
