I want to begin by saying that really, there is no “SAFE” time. You MAY have a safe time IF you have a REGULAR menstrual cycle. Regular meaning.. Day 1 of cycle: Period begins Day 14 of cycle: Ovulation occurs Day 15-16 of cycle: Egg dies, and is no longer fertile 14 days after ovulation, period begins again. Now, we have to think about how long sperm can live in our bodies, and how long the egg lives. Sperm: 5-7 days. Egg: 24-48 hours. So, if you have sex 7 days prior to ovulation, you may get pregnant, because the sperm may still be alive, waiting to fertilize the egg. See what I’m saying? Probably the “SAFEST” time to have unprotected sex without getting pregnant is during the 7 day period before your menstrual period. This gives a good 14 day window for the sperm to die.
