FOOD WASTE – how does a Recycologic bin deal with it?
Clearly the stinking little plastic pot for food waste that some councils give out for your kitchen worktop HAS TO GO! There are several alternatives:- – Biodegradable bags – recycologic will shortly be introducing a system for supporting biodegradable bags in our bins – this will provide one solution but please read on as there may be better environmental solutions depending on where you live. – Sink waste disposers – some regions love them if their pipes can carry the waste and the treatment plants can harvest the methane off it. Other areas ban them altogether due to fat blocking the pipes. – Composting – either in your garden or in a specialist unit (such as made by Naturemill) may be the most environmentally friendly solution but be aware that a poorly tended compost heap will decompose anaerobically and give off methane, a gas 21 times worse than CO2 for the environment.
