Following the initial award of a certificate what is the ongoing process to retain certification?
A You must continue to operate your management system on a day to day basis. This must include the internal auditing and management review processes. You will be subjected to annual or biannual surveillance visits. Generally, a reasonable amount of prior notice will be given. Each of these visits will review; internal audits, management reviews and corrective actions. The remainder of the requirements of the standard will be reviewed over the course of a three year period (a UKAS requirement). A triennial review will then be carried out to ensure that the entire system has been assessed and that no trends of non-conformance are evident. Some certification bodies include this triennial review within the three year cycle but some carry out an additional visit.
