Following the continuation of a story is sometimes annoying. Why do stories jump into different sections of the paper?
Putting together a newspaper is like solving a giant puzzle with many pieces: news and editorial material of varying lengths, ads of various sizes, and recurring elements like comics, stock tables and daily special sections. Further, this puzzle is composed within a certain environment: the news of the day (e. g. , big stories requiring lots of coverage), production and color printing capabilities, and how many pages a given day’s paper will have – based on the number of ads. Certain restrictions also exist: no ads will be placed on page 1, the comic pages or section fronts.
