Following an appointment, how long is it before my horse can be fed, turned-out or ridden?
Horses should not be fed for 45 minutes following the administration of the reversal agent because of choking risks. They should have access to fresh, clean water immediately following their dental care. Placing them in a stall for an hour where they can be observed is preferable, however, turning them out in pen or small lot with even footing that is free of obstacles, other equipment and antagonistic horses is acceptable. It would be best to give your horse the day off as they often remain groggy for a period of hours despite the administration of the reversal agent. This is due to the administration of a drug that is not countered by the reversal agent.
