No. With only a few specific exceptions, the MAAC Insurance does not cover you when you fly at locations other than a registered MAAC or AMA club field. This means that if you decide to fly in a private field, park, lake, or other similar location you are on your own. There was a change in the policy as of 2009, so if you heard in previous years you were covered, it may have been true then, but is no longer the case. Note that clubs can register other locations with MAAC for special events, in which case coverage is active. We discourage flying in public parks as we think that there is the potential for serious injury (even in some cases with the small electric models known as “park flyers”). It is also extremely difficult to keep members of the public and particularly children at safe distances.
