FlashPix claims to be multi-resolution, too. How is MrSID different?

FlashPix is a consumer-level scheme for faking many of the attributes provided by MrSID. MrSID is “naturally” multi-resolution since it’s based on a wavelet transform and doesn’t require the creation of an image pyramid of interpolated data like FlashPix uses. This means MrSID does not need an extra 133% of storage for the multiple resolution images required by FlashPix. Also, FlashPix uses JPEG for compression, which makes it completely unsuitable for mission critical applications.
