Fish Habitat How is Glacier proposing to save critical fish habitat and would their measures be sufficient?
POI consultants consider mitigation plans inadequate. In just 5 years at Glacier’s Dupont mine, 10,000 tons of gravel was spilled. Glacier’s new dock would extend much further out into the sound to avoid impact from prop wash on delicate eelgrass beds, but there is disagreement between scientists as to the models used when determining actual impacts. Although the Shorelines Board required Glacier to line their barges, there still could be significant noise-enough possibly to interfere with the orcas and possibly some fish species. This habitat is home to several endangered fish species, including juvenile salmon as they bulk up for their journey to the ocean.
