First, is it a baby tooth or and adult tooth?

For adult teeth: the sooner the tooth is re-implanted in the tooth socket, the better its chance of survival. Call us immediately. If you are able to “re-implant” the tooth into the socket, do so and hold it there until you see us. We know that this may not happen. Always make sure you handle the tooth by the crown and not the root. If you need to transport it, place it in milk, or water, or saliva in a container or bag so that it does not dry up. After we assess the situation, we will stabilize the tooth likely with a wire so that it stays in place. For baby teeth: the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines do not recommend re-implanting baby teeth. We recommend you call us to assess the trauma. Other teeth and surrounding soft tissue (e.g. gums, lips, cheek, tongue) may have been affected by the trauma. Sometimes the tooth is fractured (broken). Call us, we’ll help you through this.
