1. How are the data collected? The data contained in the UIS Database and tables presented here have been collected from some 200 countries. Questionnaires were sent to the UNESCO National Commissions, which then passed them on to the relevant national authorities (for example, Ministries of Education, Ministries of Finance or the National Library). These questionnaires are completed by national experts and then returned to the UIS. Based on the completed questionnaires, and also taking into consideration other national official data sources, the data were then cross-checked and entered into the UIS statistical database. Questionnaires were sent to the Member States to collect administrative data for: pre-primary, primary, secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary, tertiary and educational finance. 2.
