Tom was absolutely my first choice for the role. Nobody could play the devil better (laughs). Of course, we worked together on The Fisher King and I think he is one of the greatest musical poets in America. Playing the devil was just a piece of cake to him. He even said he was ready to do it without reading the script. There is something about Tom’s music and poetry that is on the same wavelength as I am – it is sinister and dark but also romantic and beautiful… The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is released is released in UK cinemas in 16 October 2009.
