Film Transparencies versus negatives?
A. You learn from your mistakes. Push yourself to learn techniques of correct exposure by using transparencies because they will show up exposure errors both on your part and the cameras. Make tests to be sure the cameras automatic exposure system is accurate. Make the tests with transparency film. You cant perform such tests with negative film because it is designed to work in inexpensive point-and-shoot cameras where the auto exposure may be in error by 2 to 3 stops. It is wonderful when processing poorly exposed negative film, the 1-hour labs can automatically correct and make good prints. This is technology at work but you will not learn playing this game. When you look at a transparency slide what you see is what you did. When you look at a color negative nobody can tell what went on.
