The high-value-adding activities (VAAs) an organization chooses in developing its strategy (critical value question 4) are a major focal point of the execution effort. For each VAA the management team establishes a small number of activity goals. For example, an activity goal for the marketing activity in a software firm might be to reach fifty percent of the potential customers in a targeted segment over the next six months, with messages that build their awareness regarding a new value proposition. The management team also establishes one or more asset goals for each VAA (based on the companys answers to critical value question 5). For example, an asset goal associated with the VAA of product development might be to add an experienced engineer, or to upgrade existing employees skills in some targeted expertise. Each VAA has an activity owner who then develops a plan (with support from Paul OMalley Associates) for achieving the goals. Each plan includes a budget, major action items, c
