Female Golden Retriever Heat?
Hi Michael! Many vets say the best thing to do is to get you female dog spayed, not only for preventing any unwanted pregnancies but also for preventing the discomfort that accompanies the cycles. Female dogs stay in heat for 3 weeks. The first week going into heat, the second “in” heat, and the third is going out of heat. After that 3 weeks is over, it is safe for your dog to get spayed. There are little underwear/diaper things to put on her. They tie at the sides and you put pads in them. As for humping your leg, I think that’s normal. If there are no other dogs around her then she has nothing else to “hump” really except either human legs or arms. This is all pretty normal stuff when your dog is in heat, but if you would like to check it through with your vet, you should just give him a call.
