Farewell Mr Eugenides, who will swear for us now?
Woe, woe and thrice woe (and other such Classical expressions of dismay). Startling and sad news from the political blogosphere, where one of the most barnstorming of all online rantfests has abruptly reached the end of the road. The mysterious Mr Eugenides – who memorably and very aptly chose to portray himself as a scowling, angry baby – has announced his withdrawal from the front line of scepticism, sarcasm and wholesale scatological scurrilous debunking of the political classes. The Scottish blogosphere – indeed the wider blogosphere, Blogeria being a country with no defined borders – will be more polite but much the poorer for his absence. Mr Eugenides began blogging at the end of October 2005, so we’ve had exactly five years of uninhibited and entertainingly articulate railing against the political machine.
