Family is the fundamental unit we think from in India (and Asia). But we seem unable to extend our care beyond that boundary: How do we change our mindset?

There is a growing need to research, experiment and arrive at different frameworks, concepts, tools and approaches that are uniquely suited to Indians and no organisation currently focuses on this issue. Why? Western models don’t work for western leaders and companies themselves – look at some of the financial institution failures, turn-around issues, M & A failures, stock option scandals and ethical lapses. That does not mean we should discard western approaches – far from it. We have to take what works and build on it by bringing our own understanding of Indian businesses, mindsets, market conditions and customer needs. We have to begin with India and then focus on Asia and other emerging economies to see whether what we are developing helps others who are different from the western mindset as well.
