External Access – what if I have problems looking at video and audio from home?
If you are a student in halls of residence, all services to halls of residence (with the exception of the Wolfson) at the University are owned and managed by private companies who use a tiered system of pricing. It is common for halls to have the least expensive of this system and therefore you may experience limitations in what you can download and look at. Whilst this is entirely outwith our control, one possible solution is to make use of VPN (Virtual Private Network) at the university. As long as the reason you can’t view material is due to content blocking and not a bandwidth issue then you can use VPN to get around any issue of specific content restrictions. VPN is a free service to all university students and can be obtained through computing service. If students login with VPN and then try to look at Moodle or anything else on gla.ac.uk pages, they will not have an issue.
