This is a limitation in Mesa. It attempts to garbage collect OpenGL contexts that have been destroyed before it creates any new contexts. The MPU renderer GL contexts are destroyed when the MPU renderer exits. This problem does not occur in the version of MEsa supplied with XFree86.
