Exactly what is an ink cartridge?
Simply put, an ink cartridge is a container, or reservoir, for ink. Generally there is a separate reservoir for each of the four colors, cyan (blue), magenta (pink), yellow and black. Some cartridges have electronics built into them to do the printing, called the print head, and to keep track of the amount of ink in the cartridge. These cartridges are more expensive than the other type, because of the added cost for the electronics and nozzles in the print head. On the other hand, if the print head stops working, it’s easier to fix, if all you have to do is replace the cartridge!
