In the IT industry, ASP is an acronym that currently has two specific meanings. One is a Microsoft technology called Active Server Pages that is used for building and delivering Web based applications and solutions. With respect to POSP, the second meaning of ASP is Applications Service Provider and is a type of company or service offering. An Application Service Provider (ASP) is a company that offers access, typically over the Internet, to applications running on a remote computer. This is in contrast to the traditional situation of running the application on a computer located on the user’s own premises.
