The Town determines why it was defeated. Based on the evaluation, the Town makes modifications and re-posts the referendum. If the Town fails to pass the ordinance, DEP can take the Town back to Court or seek other enforcement actions. This is the most undesirable outcome. It may cause; the Town to lose autonomy, the Towns bond rating to become jeopardized, and DEP to seek implementation of a central treatment plant with sewers.
