The 7.62×39 bullet is shorter than a .303B, with less bore contact area, so a marginal or out of spec. barrel cannot be used successfully. Uneven results and a high scrap rate have led us to make new barrels a standard feature of our conversions. Before ordering a conversion kit the buyer needs to remove the bolt head and trigger guard from their rifle for shipment to S.I.A. We will not want the action or stock, this eliminates a lot of paperwork and shipping restrictions, as the components being shipped are no longer “Firearms” and can be shipped via any common carrier or the U.S. post office. For all kits we cut and re-thread the breech end of the new barrel, then chamber it for 7.62×39. Using the barrel nut system head space setting becomes very easy, but the gun will not look quite as traditional. The modified donor parts, new barrel, and a “K” magazine adapter assembly with one WASR 5 or 10 round magazine will be sent to the customer for building into a complete “K” conversion. As
