Ending a friendship?

No it’s not okay to begin ignoring her. Just be more assertive about your boundaries. When she insists that you walk with her on campus after dark (that’s very smart actually because no matter how safe the campus is — you just never know) give her the number of the on campus security so they can escort her to and from the dorms. Don’t tell her all of your plans. When she does ask, be very vague and refuse to go into details. You are busy, have lots of work to do and plans. Keep repeating yourself if necessary. If you just ditch her, it will not only hurt her deeply but she may very well get vindictive in the future. So honor the friendship you once had by being honest and kind to her if she inquires about the reason why you’re distancing yourself from her. Tell her that it bothers you she’s not more independent. This is the time in both of your lives where you need to meet new people, develop your own interests and experience college life to the fullest.
