the electric choke wiring doesnt go to the starter solenoid at all. it must be connected to one of the the “accessory” wires or terminal coming off the ignition switch that will be powered when the key is in the “run” position.

Fasten the ground wire somewhere on the engine. With the engine running, check the voltage of the 2 small lugs on the alternator. One will read 12-13 volts, the other should read 9-10. Hook it to the lower voltage one.
