Dust settled: Did Andy Murray go from being Britains greatest hope to Scotlands greatest failure?
Yep the media is already on him calling him a has been. At the grand old age of 22. No wonder he is a prickly little pear. The media build you up and blow smoke up your bum only to drop you right in it when it becomes apparent that you do not have super human tennis skills. There is always next year. I am no Murray fan, in fact I am not really a tennis fan – one of the many many sports I get coerced into watching but I do feel sorry for him in this whole ‘build them up, knock them down’ way the media has on our young sport stars. The exact same treatment as what Lewis Hamilton got (again not a fan) Bianca – Actually Tim Henman also made it to the semi finals of Wimbledon several times. The same place that Andy Murray got knocked out of this year. Bianca – you are right, Henman only won a rubbish 11 titles whilst Murray has won a fantastic 12 titles. Both won them for Great Britain.
According to the ‘media’ yes – your right – once he lost he again became a ‘Scot’ and not British. The ‘media’ has always been so ‘fickle’ with regard to anyone loseing – build them up and then knock them down. The ‘true tennis fan’ will see way beyond that – he is still no:3 in the world and still a very good tennnis player. And next year – who knows. You did your best (on the day) Andy Murray – none of us can ask you for anything more – you just came up against a better player ‘on the day’ something that happens to them all from time to time. And your quite right – we down here do ‘tend to hijack’ any name in any situation that suits us at the time.
