During a service, if the receiver, on his backhand side plays the ball on his forhand, i.e. effectively turns to receive, is this allowed, or is it a let ?
The receiver is certainly allowed to change from backhand to forehand. This maybe could be achieved without technically turning. Turning has a specific definition. The ball has to pass ‘around’ the striker. If the striker turned then other criteria and rules are applied. Once agian turning is permitted including on service. However the striker in this case is expected to take care not to hit the non-striker. If he does the rally is awarded to the non-striker. If the striker is uncertain of where the opponent is, he should not play the shot and ask for a let which should be allowed. The same rules apply to service as well as during any rally.
