Gardening, like all good things, must sometimes be taken in moderation. We are not all blessed with acres of property, hours of free time, or the mobility to garden unrestrained. Whatever the situation, container gardens can be a wonderfully creative solution. The plants you use to fill your pots are limited only by your imagination. Gone are the days of plunking three geraniums around a dracaena spike and calling it a day. Choose from annuals, perennials, herbs or vegetables. Vary the size, color, and texture within each pot. Experiment with different combinations of flowers and foliage. Plant a theme garden in a pot. Maybe you love to grow tomatoes but can’t manage a whole garden full. Fine. Plant one tomato plant in a large container. Whiskey barrels work well. Surround it with parsley, and marigolds (to ward off pests). Plant a few nasturtiums and some oregano to trail over the side of the pot. Add some thyme or rosemary. You’ll have a colorful, mostly edible, pot full of culinary
