Dude, whats proper boarder jargon for berms or jumps?
There are some generic terms but because snowboard cross is such a worldwide thing, we have different names for jumps in North America. You have your standard banks and your standard rollers. There’s a certain jump that right out of the start gate, the gate will drop and the riders basically go off a wall. In other words they are facing a wall of snow in front of them, almost like a halfpipe wall. I believe North Americans were the first ones to build it. I was in southern California at Bear Mountain and a builder I was working with at the time, he was listening to the [rap group] Wu-Tang Clan, so he went and called it the Wu-Tang. Anyone in North America, any time you would see a jump like that, would recognize that and say that’s a Wu-Tang. I guess it’s a little bit like the actual snowboarding itself – you have different angle jumps – you have different high-angle jumps and no one jump is ever really the same.
