Don’t we need to continue immigration to stop Australia’s aging population?

0

Bringing in more adults to create a “younger” Australia will temporarily deal with a large amount of older people by increasing the tax base and providing more health care workers for example, but these new immigrants will then require an even greater amount of people to sustain them when they are older. It has been shown that Australia would need to bring in nearly 5 times as many immigrants as currently come here, to actually have a significant effect on changing the age demographics – it would be political suicide to bring in this many people. So why do certain people keep claiming that the current level of population growth is for the objective of keeping Australia “younger”? It’s to distract people from the real reasons population growth is being kept high – to prop up an otherwise faltering real estate market and boost the economy in the short term only. The best way to deal with this problem is ensure that the birth rate remains constant which eventually provides a healthy ratio
