Don’t “spending caps” just tie the hands of our elected officials and make their job more difficult?
First, this measure does not impose “spending caps”. It is a vehicle to obtain consent from the voters for additional spending authorization beyond current spending levels plus the CPI. This will help elected officials better do their jobs and focus their attention on the primary duties and responsibilities of government. By requiring new and expanded spending to receive taxpayer approval, elected officials will find it easier to say “no” to special interests and direct tax dollars to fund basic and necessary governmental services.
