Don some people lie about being raped?
The false reporting rate for rape is about 2% of all reported rapes. It is important to note that the false reporting rate is similar for other crimes. It is more likely that someone is not reporting a rape that did happen than that someone is falsely reporting being raped. Nation-wide the estimate is that 65% of rapes are NOT reported. It is very hard to report rape. The evidentiary exam, even in the best of circumstances, is difficult, which keeps some people from reporting. Often the victim unjustly blames herself or himself (men can be raped by other men and, much less often, by women) and so does not report.
