Don’t Mormons require everyone to marry?
The Mormons teach that marriage is ordained of God and is a desirable state. However, God understands that not everyone has an opportunity to marry in this life. Some don’t marry because they never find a suitable spouse. Others have disabilities that prohibit marriage. Homosexuals are counseled not to marry unless they are able to be attracted to a woman and live a life compatible with gospel teachings. Mormons have a unique teaching about marriage that makes it easier to cope with the disappointment of not marrying in this life. They teach that marriage is forever, because God does not approve of divorce, even divorce caused by death. He commanded us to love our spouses and children above all others, and so He would never then command us to learn how to fall out of love with them when we die.
