The DUI exercises can reveal effects of intoxication, along with many other things not related to drugs at all. Roadside field tests generally are balance tests. Balance can be affected by alcohol and drugs. Unfortunately though, anxiety affects balance; fatigue affects balance; sleepiness affects balance; an un-level surface affects balance; having a cold or sinus infection affects balance; having bad knees, ankles, or back affects balance; older age affects balance; high heels affect balance; being overweight affects balance… add some of these conditions with the smell of alcohol on someone’s breath and guess what?
