Donations to disaster relief appeals – can I claim a deduction?

0

Gifts to the value of $2 or more to a disaster relief appeal are deductible if the appeal is endorsed by the Tax Office as a deductible gift recipient (DGR). A DGR is a charity or other organisation that is entitled to receive tax-deductible donations. If you are unsure whether an appeal to which you wish to donate is a DGR, you can check the status on the Australian Business Register (ABR) at www.abr.business.gov.au/ at or by phoning the Tax Office Non-Profit Infoline on 1300 130 248. More information about deductible gifts can be found in our publication GiftPack or in the ‘For Non-Profit Organisations’ section of the Tax Office website.
