Doesnt XBRL GL create really big files?
XML is verbose, and representing a CSV or fixed length ASCII file using XBRL instance documents can be many times the initial size. There will be cases where XBRL GL must be kept in native XBRL instances, for on the line processing by routers, for example. As bandwidth, storage and processing speed all increases and becomes less expensive, these issues will fade; some of those routers can also decompress/compress and compressed XBRL data is relatively small. XBRL GLs semantics can also be used to describe more space efficient file formats like CSV or ASCII for great benefit as well.
